Are Jerome Russell products tested on animals?
All Jerome Russell products are cruelty free.
What is a skin sensitivity test?
As skin allergies can arise at any time, it is important to perform a skin sensitivity test every time you colour your hair, even if you have used the product before.
Use a cotton bud to apply a small coin sized amount a product behind your ear.
Leave for 48 hours before washing off.
If your skin shows any sign of allergic reaction, wash off immediately and do not use product.
What is a strand test and why do I need to perform one?
As everyone has a different hair type and texture, end colour results can vary. Taking a strand test prior to using colouring products, will allow you to trial the product and see the potential results without committing to a full head of colour.
Apply a small amount of hair dye to a section of your hair. After 10 minutes, wipe off and assess the colour.
Reapply with more mixture and assess the colour every 10 minutes until your desired colour is achieved.
Make a note of your personal development time and use this as a guide for your full head application.
How do I apply hair colour?
Apply the product using the instruction leaflet provided in the box. Before you apply the product, please remember to do a skin allergy test 48-hours before application.

What do the shade numbers mean?
All hair colours are numbered on a level system between 1 and 10 (according to their base colour); as the number gets higher, the colour gets lighter. For example, 1 is black and 10 is light blonde.
How much product do I need?
Like all colouring, the amount of product you need will depend on hair length and thickness. For mid length hair, you may need two boxes of colourant.
For long hair, or very thick hair, you may need two to three boxes.
How can I prolong my colour?
Use a shampoo and conditioner that is formulated for coloured hair.
For blonde hair, a silver shampoo and conditioner can help to keep your colour vibrant.
After colouring hair, try and avoid sun exposure, as the sun is a natural hair lightener and can cause colour to change and fade.
Does hair type affect colouring time?
Yes, hair type will always make a difference when colouring hair.
Coarse hair takes slightly longer to absorb hair colour, so it can require a longer development time.
Fine hair takes less time to absorb colour, so it may take a shorter time to develop. You will be able to determine your own personal development time by conducting a strand test.
Yes you can, however medium and darker greys will work better. Light grey hair will have very little lift as pigment levels are much lower. Toners work better for light grey hair.
Non-permanent toners enhance hair colour and create a good all-over tone. They also provide a bonus effect by conditioning the hair.
Think about what affect you want to achieve. There is a wide range of Maximum Toners to match and enhance your hair colour.
Toners are also good for extending colour, or brightening and refreshing your colour.
No, you need a peroxide to mix as this is an activator - one won't work without the other.
20 vol - for blonde to light brown hair - lifts 4-5 shades
30 vol - for blonde to medium brown hair - lifts 6-7 shades
40 vol - for light to dark brown hair - lifts 8-9 shades.
Possibly not left on long enough and may need a second application.
Make sure your hair is in good condition and carry out another strand test before bleaching, as development time will be faster.
Brassy yellow tones can be removed using a Jerome Russell No Yellow Shampoo or Maximum Toner.
Maximum toners last up to 6-8 washes whereas Semi-Permanents last up to 4 weeks.
